An Off the Couch Audio Book: The Tower

An Off the Couch Audio Book, by Kelly Cordes

My brother-in-law handed me a dusty copy of The Tower a few years back, before Kelly and I had ever met, and I remember greedily moving through the pages, and before I realized it, I had finished the book in less than 3 days. With the rich history, breathtaking landscape, and the universal story of truth and human nature, it quickly became one of my favorite mountaineering books. I only found out much later that the author was also an amazing human, and margarita specialist...plus...plus. Now Kelly is releasing audio sessions of the book, one release per day, and during this strange time when climbing is hard to come by, and there are many many hours, that build into days, and then into weeks, at home, it's nice to have a good book to listen too. Sharing with you lovely people in case you are looking for a diversion from the current groundhogs day of news outside.

"Social distancing makes a good time for storytime: Starting Wednesday, I’m releasing daily episodes of me reading my book, The Tower, cover to cover, for free, no ads and no bullshit. You’ll be able to stream or download the episodes from my website (I’ll post the link) — they average 25 to 30 minutes each, and range from 20 to 50 minutes. While recording I tried to avoid being neurotic about retakes, the places where I hate my voice or sound like a kid learning to read. My pronunciations of foreign words are atrocious. Have mercy. You get what you pay for. Anyway, apologies for the hiccups, the sips from my marg, and the wind outside my window, but I figured this should be fun, and maybe even help us keep the space while everyone’s cooped-up. I've consolidated the 35 chapters (plus Epilogue and Postscript) into 16 readings, prefaced by a short intro, starting April 1 (no joke). I hope you enjoy, and stay healthy." - Kelly Cordes
